Risk factors of strokes include
  1. Thrombotic stroke Risk factors are advanced age, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia (high blood lipids including cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL), smoking, alcohol consumption and vascular diseases.
  2. Embolic stroke Risk factors are cardiovascular diseases including arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm), heart valve diseases, myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure and cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart).
  3. Hemorrhagic stroke Main risk factor is uncontrolled hypertension.
